About Colonel Simon Triplett
Simon Triplett was Captain (later Colonel) of the Loudoun County Militia 1776-1777. He was a close friend of George Washington and letters between them have been published. He was speculated to be the Colonel Triplett who led the Virginia Line at the Battle of Cowpens, however more recent research lends more evidence to it being his cousin, Colonel Francis Triplett. Despite the confusion, Simon Triplett was an Officer in the Continental Army, a Patriot, and a friend of George Washington. He was apparently influential and wealthy enough to equip an entire company at his own expense. He seems to have been promoted to Colonel as well at some point, as he is referred to as Colonel Simon Triplett in the Vestry book of Bishop Meade.
