Jeremiah M. Spring served in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War as a member of Company D, 64th Regiment, Georgia Infantry. He enlisted on February 20, 1863 at Albany, Georgia as a Private. He was appointed 4th Corporal on May 30, 1863. Promoted to 1st Corporal. He was captured by the Union on August 5, 1864 at Williamsport, Maryland (or possibly on August 16 at the Second Battle of Deep Bottom in Henrico County, Virginia) and was sent to Washington, D.C. on August 17, 1864, where he was confined in Old Capitol Prison on August 18. He was sent to Fort Delaware Military Prison on September 19, 1864. He arrived at Fort Delaware on October 13, 1864 and stayed there until March 7, 1865, when he was paroled and exchanged.
