He was a Committee of the 1820 Settlers Foundation.
He set himself the task of creating a monument to his father, Thomas Bourchier Bowker, M.P. He collected sneezewood from which the bench was made. This was
unveiled in December 1991.
Grew up on the farms Glen Ovis and Signal Hill, situated in the Great Fish River Valley, 36 miles north of Grahamstown, where they farmed with Merino sheep, Blackhead Persians, Holstein cattle, Arabian horses and ostriches.
