NOTES for Daniel, Sr.: Daniel Flanders born Mch.16, 1674/5, Salisbury, MA; d. prior to Apr.1, 1735, Amesbury, MA; m.(1) May 1, 1700, Amesbury, MA, to Sarah Jane Colby; d. after 1720 (presum.) as Daniel "signed a receipt for his wife" in that year; dau. of Serg. John Colby and Sarah Osgood; m.(2) Oct.24, 1724, Amesbury, to Dorothy (Worthen) Hoyt, widow of Joseph Hoyt. Daniel Flanders was a carpenter by trade and resided at Amesbury. In the order book of Capt. Henry True, Jr., he is mentioned as one of ten men "sent by conduct of Ens. John Wadley, to Haverhill." These men were "prest" by Jarvis Ring and Benjamin Eastman, Mch. 1697/8 (King William's War). No record has been found of the death of Daniel Flanders, but on Apr.1, 1735, Dorothy Flanders, widow of Daniel, refused to accept the division of his estate. Since Since the General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony had ordered that all estates be administered within 30 days of the decease, it is probable that he died in March of that year. His estate was apprized Apr.15, 1735, and administration granted to his son Daniel Jr. In the records of the 1st Church of Amesbury, the following entry is given : "It was voted that the Reasons Sent by the Widow Dorothy Flanders why She had not Pay her Part to the Support of the Sacrements for the year past are insufficient; and that she be informed that the Church dont think fit to Release her of any part of the Sum and that she be directed to Considr seriously of her Neglect, and fault therein, and without Delay Discharge her Duty in the Mattr." He married (1) Sarah Jane COLBY 1 May 1700 in Amesbury, MA. She was born about 1679 in Amesbury, MA. She was the daughter of Sergeant John COLBY and Sarah OSGOOD . Sarah died after 1720 in Amesbury, MA. NOTES for Sarah: Sarah Jane Colby, daughter of Sergeant John Colby and Sarah Osgood, married Daniel Flanders May 1, 1700, Amesbury, MA. Her birth date is not known, but she was probably born in Amesbury or Salisbury. She died after 1720, as she "signed a receipt for his wife" in that year.
