Served in Union Army during the Civil War. Following in the footsteps of his two elder brothers, Daniel enlisted on July 1, 1863 at Somerset, Kentucky as a Private in Company H, 2d Regiment Tennessee Infantry. He was also captured at Rogersville, Tennessee November 6, 1863 and confined at Richmond November 13, 1863. He was transferred to Andersonville Prison, Georgia. Admitted to hospital at Andersonville on May 17, 1864 where he died of diarrhea on May 22, 1864.
