About Daniel Pound
Daniel Pound grew up a Quaker and when the Revolution came did not fight in it. In addition he had strong sympathies for the British cause and helped them during the war, particularly in Now York City. Following the Revolutionary War he returned to New Jersey and married Prudence Jones about 1783. By 1790 he had decided to emigrate to Canada and traveled north to Bertie, Ontario, just west of the Niagara Falls area where he spent the rest of his life. At that time there was no way to cross the Niagara River except to swim and Daniel Pound took his family across driving the horses across the river in front of him.
On January 1, 1799, he requested membership for his seven children, Saray, William, Elijah, Elizabeth, David, John and Rachel in the Pelham Monthly Meeting of Friends. He, his wife Prudence and son Daniel were already members.
