David F. Sr. and Ursula Weatherford Burleson , http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/BURLESON/2000-05/0958458124
David (Franklin-possible middle name) Burleson, Sr. was born about1752 or 1755 in Lunenburg Co., Virginia or in North Carolina. Somequestions remain concerning his parents, but, most researchers seemto think that John (Crawford-possible middle name) Burleson of about1728/30 of Lunenburg Co., Virginia and his wife Sarah (maiden nameunknown) were the parents of David Sr. There is information fromanother researcher which gives some new information and datesthat will connect our line of Burlesons to the Northern Burlesonsthrough Edward of Suffield, Connecticut, thus dating back to 1667.This information via the Internet may be found at Gen Forum underBurleson (messages 709, 710, 711, 713, 827 and 832) at the followingaddress:http://genforum.gen.../709.htm - changing each messagenumber for each individual message as listed above.Sometime around 1774, David Sr. married Ursula Weatherford (bornabout 1755/60 in Lunenburg Co., VA to Wilkerson Weatherford of 1726.)Ursula Weatherford may have been of Cherokee or Creek Indian bloodor heritage. Her sister, Agnes Weatherford was said to be of Cherokeeorgin either by birth or marriage. There is a link between Ursula andthe great Creek Indian War Chief William "Red Eagle" Weatherford, who was the leader of the Creeks who attacked Ft. Mims, Alabamaand said to be one of three Creek War Chiefs who fought in theBattle of Horseshoe Bend in Alabama. After the Creeks defeatat Horseshoe Bend, "Red Eagle" rode into Gen. Andrew Jackson'scamp alone to surrender. "Old Hickory" was impressed with suchdisplay of bravery that he befriended "Red Eagle" and then sent himhome to live out his remaining life in peace. This connection wouldmake me the writer a fourth cousin-four times removed to the CreekChief William "Red Eagle" Weatherford according to lineage records.David Sr. served as a private in the American Revolutionary War inthe James Farris Battalion under Col. Wade's Regiment North Carolina. He was discharged on October the 9th of 1782. The Cap. William Lytlechapter of the D.A.R. (Daughters of the American Revolution) erecteda marker on David Sr. and Ursula's farm to honor his military serviceto the United States. They lived in Anson and Montgomery Counties of North Carolinauntil sometime before 1810. Sometime before 1810, they hadeither relocated into Rutherford County, Tennessee or that partof North Carolina became part of Tennessee. David Sr. departedthis earthly life on August the 13th of 1832 and Ursula on Februarythe 27th of 1835 and are both buried on their farm. In the 1980s, itwas still owned by the Burleson family. One can find pictures oftheir log cabin online via Belinda Kay Pierce's web page at FamilyTree Maker.Com and also at Yahoo Clubs under "The BurlesonFamily."They are the progenitors of the Burlesons who settled MarionCounty, Alabama. Most if not almost all Marion, Winston, andFranklin County Burlesons are descendants of David Sr. andUrsula Weatherford Burleson. A few of the Aaron II (the second's)line married into David Sr.'s line.Sources: "The Burleson Family History," William Gene "Bill"Burleson, copyright of 1998, sixth printing.William Gene Burleson, 6226 Hwy. 72 West,Huntsville,AL,35806. mailto: webburle@hiwaay.net--(E-mail Address).Research of Daniel McCance on Southern BurlesonsConnection to the Northern Burlesons.Personal research and thoughts of Scotty KentBurleson.NOTE: Joseph Sr. did say that his father, Aaron IIwasborn in New Jersey, which gives further evidence of alikely connection to Edward of Suffield, Connecticut.Scotty Kent Burleson
American Revolution - Served as a Private in James Farris' Battalion, Col. Wade's Regiment, North Carolina. He took the Oath of Allegiance in Anson County, North Carolina on 28 May 1778.
