David Clodfelter (or David Hege Clodfelter?) was the tenth of twelve known children of Jacob Clodfelter (1770-1837) and Margaret Hege Clodfelter (1771-1857), who married 28 June 1790 at Rowan (now Davidson) County, North Carolina.

David married Nancy Myers (1810-1897) on 24 November 1834 at Davidson County, North Carolina. This is thought to be the second marriage for David, as he had two (or one?) known children before his marriage to Nancy, namely:

01. John Myers Clodfelter (c1826-p1895) (Note: this may be confused with John L. Clodfelter (1825-1900) a first cousin of John M. Clodfelter. In the 1850 Census John M. Clodfelter is listed as 13 years old (thus b. c 1837).
02. Elmira (Elmina?) Julianne Clodfelter Livengood (1832-1910)

David and Nancy were the parents of nine (or ten?) known children, namely:

04. John Adam Clodfelter (1835-1914)
05. Huldah Margaret Ann Clodfelter (1841-1886), moved to Greene County. Missouri

07. Emaline (Emeline?) Clodfelter (c1844-???)
08. Henry Valentine Clodfelter (1847-1929)
09. Eli Burton Clodfelter (1849-1904)
10. Ransom Myers Clodfelter (1851-1942)
11. Lorenzo Francis Clodfelter (1853-1943)
