Dave fought in the Revolutionary War in North Carolina. He was with the "Mountaineers" who were under the leadership of General Tarlton on Kines Mountain. David was a raw Irishman, hard fighting and hard drinking but he was devoutly religious. After his return home, he and his family moved to Buncombe County, North Carolina and later migrated to Tennessee. Dave and Athaliah are both buried in Laine or Lane Cemetery, Wilson County, Tennessee along with their daughter, Mary, and her husband.
