About David Wohlgemuth

Our loving Dad, Husband, Grandpa, Great-grandpa, and Brother – David C. Wohlgemuth – was born on January 2, 1927 to John and Helena Wohlgemuth in their home near Landmark, Manitoba. He was the oldest of 13 children.

David married me, Matilda Unger on September 17, 1950. We had over sixty-six unforgettable years together. We were blessed with 12 children – 6 sons and 6 daughters. We started out married life in Manitoba, and moved to Alberta to Rocky Mountain House where our first daughter, Sandra was born. She lived a very short time and is buried there in the cemetery near the town. We moved back to Manitoba where Lois, Kathy, Lee, and Brenda were born. We moved to Crooked Creek, Alberta in 1956, and Dad started work at Ed Ennses’ sawmill in the winter, and farming in the summer. Rob, Donna, Jim, John, Tim, and Glen were born to us there, and then 6 years later Tami joined us.

Dad worked hard to make us a living, sometimes away at camp for the week. He liked animals, and spent many years raising livestock. He would come home and check on our chores. He was good with veterinary care, and was sometimes get called to neighbors to help out. Dad liked to camp when traveling, and he loved to meet people, so he would find people to visit with in campsites – sometimes still visiting when we were ready to go! Dad had a big heart and was generous. He was honest and would not sacrifice friendship for his gain. Dad was also first to admit that he wasn’t perfect. Dad faced some suffering along the way in his life. One fall he was crushed by a tractor he was attempting to start, and spent months rehabilitating. On several occasions, we spent considerable time and worry when his heart was failing him. This brought moments where we would not have imagined him reaching 90 years. After going through these things his balance was affected and he would occasionally fall, sometimes with damage, but he would somehow just keep on going.

Those left to cherish precious memories are his wife, Matilda; 10 children, Lois and Reg Colberg, Rimbey AB, Kathy and Harold Isaac, Lee and Janet, Crooked Creek, AB, Brenda and Delmer Schartner, Teepee Creek AB, Rob and Monica, Crooked Creek, AB, Donna and Tim Schweigert, Chilliwack, BC, Jim and Cheryl, Grande Prairie, AB, Tim and Colleen, Crooked Creek, AB, Glen, Beaverlodge, AB, Tami and Jerry Thiessen, Telkwa, BC, daughter-in-laws Fern Wohlgemuth, Neilburg Sask, and Carmie Hill, ValleyView, AB, 39 Grandchildren, 50 Great-grandchildren, 3 brothers, 5 sisters, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is predeceased by an infant daughter, Sandra, son John, grandson Adrian, his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister, as well as brothers and sisters in-law.

We would like to thank the staff at R.V. Home for the love and care you gave Dad. We saw that he loved you. We especially thank Jim for taking care of Dad in his last days.
