About Helena Wohlgemuth
Helena Hiebert Wohlgemuth, wife of John Wohlgemuth, was born on March 19, 1906, to David and Stella Hiebert at Langdon, North Dakota. She died on April 18, 1985, at the age of 79 years and 1 month. As a girl of fifteen, God called her out of her family to join His people. As the first one of her family to really experience the love and forgiveness of the Saviour, she met up with many trials, but was soon accepted as a member in the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, and baptized by I.N. Mastre on January 5, 1921. She spent much of her early years working away from home and staying with the Mastre's at Grafton, North Dakota, whom she often referred to as her spiritual parents. She was married to John Wohlgemuth on March 7, 1926, in Greenland, Manitoba, sharing joys and sorrows for just over fifty-nine years. They spent most of their time in Crooked Creek, Alberta. The last year was spent near Whitemouth, Manitoba. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband, John; six sons: David and Matilda, William and Matilda, Alen and Ella, Herbert and Verna, Wayne and Linda, all of Crooked Creek, Alberta; Alfred and Jeanette of Hadashville, Manitoba; six daughters: Maryana and Irvin Thiessen, Tina and Dennis Toews, Lena and Melvin Thiessen, Lillian and Dennis Thiessen, Elaine and Conrad Rozen, all of Crooked Creek, Alberta; Stella and Howard Long, of Oyama, British Columbia; seventy-six grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; three brothers: Isaac and Vida Hiebert, John and Irene Hiebert, Willie and Rita Hiebert; six sisters: Mrs. Stella Wolford, Marie and Art Beauchamp, Katie and Bob Hiltner, Mrs. Eva Jantz, Nettie and Edmond Justus, Elsie and Norman Toews; four Peterson sisters: Hannah and Jack Faydo, Edna and Henry Wohlgemuth, Mrs. Alice Warkentin, Betty and Harvey Giesbrecht, and a host of friends. She was predeceased by one son, Lawrence, in 1954, five grandchildren, and two brothers. Funeral services were held at the Whitemouth Mennonite Church on April 24, 1985, with Ministers Ed Friesen and Sylvester Unruh in charge. The body was then taken to Crooked Creek, Alberta, for funeral services on April 24, with the home ministers in charge. Interment was at the Crooked Creek cemetery.
