JONATHAN COBB was born in Barnstable, Massachusetts, 10 April 1660, the son of Henry Cobb by his second wife, Sarah (Hinckley) Cobb. As an adult, Jonathan Cobb remained in Barnstable until the year 1703 when he and his family moved to nearby Middleborough, Massachusetts. On 3 June 1703, Jonathan and Hope Cobb were dismissed from the Barnstable Church “over to the Middleborough Church”.

Jonathan Cobb was a Deacon in the First Congregational Church in Middleborough. He owned a large amount of land in Middleborough, and was a farmer by occupation. He died in Middleborough on 15 August 1728, age 68 years.

Jonathan Cobb was married in Barnstable, Mass., 1 March 1683, to Mrs. HOPE (CHIPMAN) HUCKINS, widow of John Huckins (1649-1678). Hope was born in Barnstable, Mass. on 31 August 1652, the daughter of John and Hope (Howland) Chipman. Her maternal grandparents, John Howland and Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland, were both passengers on the ship “Mayflower” in 1620, as were her great-grandparents, John and Joan (Hurst) Tilley. Hope (Chipman) Howland predeceased her husband, Jonathan Cobb, by one month, dying in Middleborough, Mass. on 26 July 1728, age 76 years.
