Melatiah Lathrop and 5 of his sons were in the Revolutionary War in the Seventeenth Regiment. He was a private in Capt. Ebenezer Cady's Company, Col. Wm. Whiting's Regiment, of Albany County Militia. Melatiah and Marah Lothrop settled 1739 at Kent, CT where in 1745 her father gave them a 50-acre farm; Town Clerk; removed 1757 to Amenia, Dutchess Co, NY where he was an early settler in the southeast part of that town and Deacon of the Presbyterian Church at Oblong; said to have served as Private in Capt Ebenezer Cady's Co, Col William Whiting's Regt of Albany Militia during the Revolutionary War. from: The American Forebears and Some of the Descendants of Charles Theron Brown and His Wife Martha Elizabeth Hebbard, Michael R.Gannett, 1978 Melatiah Lathrop and 5 of his sons were in the Revolutionary War in the Seventeenth Regiment.
