Dorothy J Bratcher

Dorothy was born in Wabasso, Indian River County, Florida to Forest Cecil and Daisy Elizabeth Neel Barker on May 31, 1929. She was raised mostly by her divorced mother who remarried in 1941. Her mother's full name was Daisy Elizabeth Neel Barker Sykes. Dorothy married a naval soldier, Charles Edward "Charlie" Bratcher on August 21, 1943 in Ft. Pierce, St. Lucie County, Florida. On 15 Mar 1946 she gave birth to a son, John Edward "Johnnie" Bratcher. On May 17,1946 she was driving the car containing her baby boy, her five year old nephew, Edward William Hinton Jr. and her sister, Helen Barker Hinton, that stalled on railroad tracks. She was killed along with her son and her nephew who died the next day. Her sister survived but was gravely injured. She left behind a deeply saddened husband, Charlie Bratcher, and family that included her father, Forest Cecil Barker, step-mother Jennie Vandiveer Barker, sisters, Helen Louise Barker Hinton and Thirza Lois Barker King. Brother, Cecil Wesley, step-brother, Stanley Forest Barker, step-sisters, Alva Janice and Hazel Elizabeth Barker. Note: Sadly Dorothy's sister, Helen Barker Hinton Blair, who had been so badly injured in the auto/train collision in 1943 was later killed in another horrific car crash on May 18, 1969.
