ALANSON ABBE, son of John Simons and Hannah (Billing) Abbe, born in Enfield, Connecticut on January 17, 1795; died in Boston, Massachusetts on April 14, 1864.

He was educated at Phillips Academy, Andover, and was graduated from the Medical Department at Yale, 1821. He joined the Congregational Church and studied for the ministry but lost his voice, and took up the study of medicine with Dr. Thompson of Tolland, Connecticut. He practiced medicine in Litchfield and later in Worcester and Roxbury, Mass. He was a specialist in spinal troubles.

Married (1) at Warehouse Point, Connecticut, May 8, 1821, ELIZA WOODRUFF BARNES, born in Tolland, September 20, 1799, daughter of Judge Jonathan Barnes of Tolland. She died at the birth of her last child, December 31, 1837, and was buried, as was her husband, in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Boston.

Married (2) September 17, 1839, HEPSAH H. BURGESS, born February 7, 1816; died February 16, 1842; buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary ( ) Burgess of Boston.

Married (3) November 14, 1844, MARGARET LIVINGSTON DOUW, daughter of John D. P. Douw of Albany, N. Y. She died in 1877. No children.
