About Dr. Carey Hampton
Patriot - Cary Henry Hampton served in the American Revolution. Dr. Hampton was a surgeon with Virginia troops during the Revolution and is listed in the DAR Patriot Index.
In 1800 he moved to Cabell County, W. Va., to bounty land purchased by his father from soldiers in the French & Indian War. He built a large, two-story brick house, the first in Cabell County (near the site of present Marshall College in East Huntington, W. Va.) and called it "Soldier's Claim."
