Studied medicine in Bonn, October 1910; his dissertation dates from March 7, 1913. He emigrated with his wife Julie from Nuremberg to England in 1939 and then, with his wife and daughter Lisa who had preceded him to England via a Kindertransport, emigrated to the United States in 1940. He had to repeat his exam as a medical surgeon in 1940 in the U.S.A. because all records of his credentials were destroyed or withheld by the Nazis. The Nazis also withdrew his dissertation March 28, 1941 and made him a »stateless« person! (cf.: Ralf Forsbach, Die Medizinische Fakultät der Universität Bonn im "Dritten Reich", Berlin 2006)

Translation of his CV, enclosed within his Doctoral Thesis, September 5, 1913:

"I was born on March 7th, 1889 at Lennep as the son of the merchant Moses Loewenthal and his wife Julie nee Feist. I attended the secondary school in Mülheim a. d. Ruhr and later the secondary school in Essen, which I left at Easter 1907 with the certificate of maturity. I then devoted myself to studying medicine and spent the first two semesters in Bonn. At Easter 1908 I passed the Latin exam at the Realgymnasium in Duisburg and studied the following summer semester in Freiburg i. B. In the autumn of 1908 I returned to Bonn, where in July 1909 I underwent the preliminary medical examination. I then spent the first two clinical semesters in Munich and Berlin. In autumn 1910 I returned to Bonn again. At the beginning of May 1912 I passed the state medical examination here."
