About Dr. Hugh Joseph "Doc" Coleman, DVM

Dr. Hugh J. Coleman, VMD, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Masonic Villages, Elizabethtown. Born in Rushville, PA, he was the son of the late Christopher and Cecelia (McManus) Coleman. Dr. Coleman was the husband of Eleanor Myers Coleman, married on June 5, 1999. His first wife, Joan (Harmer) passed away in 1993.

Dr. Coleman proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a graduate of Rush High School and received his Bachelors of Science from the University of Scranton. He received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Coleman retired in 1999 after practicing veterinary medicine for 48 years in Lancaster and Dauphin counties and Paradise, PA.

Fondly known as “Doc” to family and friends, he was a member of Saint Peters Catholic Church in Elizabethtown where is he served as one of the first Eucharistic Ministers in 1980 and later served on the St. Peters Church Building committee. He was a member of the Mount Joy American Legion Post 185, past President of the Florin Lions Club (1962-1963), and a member of the Milton Grove Sportsmen’s Club.

He enjoyed hunting, crossword puzzles, reading, traveling and most of all spending time with his family.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Eleanor, are three children, Chris Coleman, husband of Sheri of Burke, VA; Jayne Walsh, wife of Tressa Setlak of Leonardtown, MD; and Kathy Popovich, wife of Frank of Coatesville; He is also survived by three step-children, Carla Fackler, wife of John of Elizabethtown; David W. Myers of Elizabethtown; and Brenda Bomgardner, wife of Steve, of Bethlehem; ten grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Michael, Steven and Gary Coleman; As well as three brothers, Philip, Patrick and Chris Coleman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Peter Catholic Church, 1840 Marshall Drive, Elizabethtown on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 11 AM. Family and friends will be received at the church before the service from 10 AM to 11 AM. Final Farewell Commendation will follow at Saint Peter Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth-town.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Peter Catholic Church, 1840 Marshall Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.
