The Reverend John Elliot, the Apostle to the Indians, left one son at his death from whom many New England Elliots descended.
The Reverend Joseph Elliott, from 1664 until his death in 1694, was the minister of Guilford. The Reverend Joseph assisted his father in compiling the first complete Bible published in America. He also assisted his father with other books that he wrote. He was the only son of the Reverend John to survive his father. He died four years after his father. He was the third son of Reverend John, born December 20, 1638, died May, 1694, married Mary Wyla s. They were the parents of seven children:

Joseph, born 1675.

Abigail, born 1682.

JOSEPH, 3rd known child of John & Ann (Mountford) Eliot, was born 20 December 1638; Harvard 1658. He married (1) by 1676 Sarah Brenton (eldest child b. Guilford 6 October 1676), daughter of WILLIAM BRENTON. He married (2) by 1685 Mary Willis (eldest child b. Guilford 7 November 1685), daughter of Samuel Willis.

Although this person was likely interred in Guilford's original village cemetery (now the commons and public park in downtown Guilford), no surviving gravestone. Time and weather had erased the location of this grave when the cemetery was moved
