About Dr Thomas Thompson
Dr Thomas Thompson was in general practice in Birmingham and died in 1914. (Source: Obituary in BMJ of his son John).
His birth certificate (see document under sources tab) shows he was born on 4 August 1871 at High Street, Ballymoney, County Antrim. His father, James Thompson, is a grocer. His mother Elizabeth's maiden name was Pollock.
In the lead-up to WWI, in his home town of Handsworth, near Birmingham, England, he set up the North Midland Mounted Brigade Field Ambulance, a territorial unit of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Their first territorial camp was at Towyn, North Wales.
The 1911 census taken on 2nd April had him living with his wife, son and two servants at 63 Heathfields Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. His age is given as 39 and he describes himself as a physician and surgeon born in Ballymoney, Co. Antrim. He and Margaret have been married 10 years. The servants are Freda Helsen (28, their Swedish cook), and housemaid Ethel Mullard (19, born in Tadbank, Staffs). It states they have had two children born alive, both of them still living (although Aileen isn't with them on the day of the census).
The certificate of the registry of death (see sources tab) confirms that Thomas Thompson died aged 42 at 40 Claremont Road, Handsworth. The certificate is dated 7 May 1914 but he could have died before that.
