About Margaret Pettigrew
Margaret (known as Maggie) Thompson was born on 5 February 1880 at her parents' home in Linenhall Street, Ballymoney where her father James was a grocer (see birth certificate under sources tab).
In the 1901 census, Margaret is 21 and, with her sister Annie, is a visitor to the Wilsons' home at Tinto View, Bothwell, Lanarkshire, where their shortly-to-be-sister-in-law Margaret is still living with her parents. Both sisters are stated to have been born in Ireland, and are the daughters of a provision merchant.
In the 1911 census Margaret is 31, single, and at her parents' home in Ballymoney.
When her father died in September 1918 at the family home, Margaret, still unmarried, was present. Her marriage to James Pettigrew must have been after that, by which time she would have been at least 38. Her husband died in 1938, ten years before she did.
Her probate record [online transcript] states: Pettigrew Margaret of Glasgort Coleraine Road Ballymoney county Antrim widow died 24 September 1948 at the Robinson Memorial Hospital Ballymoney aforesaid Probate Belfast 4 July to Denis O'Connor Taggart and Dermod Lyle Taggart solicitors. Effects £3592 18s. 10d.
