Dissosway Dye was one of the patriarchs of the Dye family of Wirt County, West Virginia. His unusual name undoubtedly comes from the Dissosway family of New Jersey, which was somehow connected with the Dyes. Since nobody in Virginia seemed to know how to spell the name, numerous variants appear in county records, including Dessoway, Dessusway, Desusway, Disaway, Disisway, Dissosway, Dissusway, and Dusosway.
Dissosway was a farmer. His first wife was Elizabeth Petty. After her death, he married Mary Elizabeth Board, daughter of Andrew Board. Andrew's second wife was Mary Dye, daughter of Dissosway and Elizabeth Petty Dye. As a result, Dissosway's son-in-law became his father-in-law, and Dissosway became his own grandpa!
