Ebenezer made furniture for a living, best known for making Windsor chairs; he had a shop in Lisbon. chipstone.org says he "produced stylish, distinctive furniture of high quality." He produced a full range of furniture. He and his eldest son Elijah (1766 - 1807) were specifically referred to as woodworkers in a 1796 tax assessment for Lisbon. Ebenezer must have been doing well: he received the "unusually high" assessment of $80 while Elijah received a more usual assessment of $17. That year, Elijah advertised for an apprentice "to the Windsor Chair and Cabinet making business." The website mentions a cherrywood Newport-influenced (Newport in Rhode Island was an important centre of furniture manufacture during the 18th century) bonnet-top chest-on-chest inscribed 'Lisbon/1796' is believed to have come from Ebenezer Tracy's shop. connecticuthistory.org points out that Ebenezer Tracy made fine furniture, examples of which are at the Connecticut Historical Society, the Winterthur Museum in Delaware and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
