About Electa Symonds Hogle

Biography

Electa Symonds Rider was born March 28, 1792 in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire.

She was the Daughter of Daniel Rider and Elizabeth. Elizabeth's last name has not been confirmed but at this point going along with information at findagrave.

Decade 1810 to 1820

She married Moses Hogle, in New York. about 1815 probably in Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

a Son is Born to them William B. Hogle Apr 17, 1816 in Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

a Daughter Arvilla Born 1819 Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

a Son is Born to them Albert B Hogle May 04, 1820 in Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

a Daughter Born to them Louisa Hogle 1833 in Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

1820 Census the family is living in Brunswick, Rensselaer, New York

Decade 1820 10 1830

No Census Records exist on Moses, so he's probably on a scouting mission with William B. Hogle into the Territories, 1835 Moses was a Michigan Pioneer even though he wasn't here long he brought his son William B. Hogle with him in 1835 where they first settled in Ionia, MI.

Electa Symonds Rider, his wife. Note: Simonds is a Family Name and that of Great Great Grandmother. Since most in this group could hardly read or write it was left the the Clerk to record their names. A little more on that later.

Electa Symonds Rider his wife and daughter Lousia and son Albert soon followed him into Michigan. But they must have been living with Family in the 1830 at least as far as a Census.

Since Moses and William were here in 1835, there is no telling where, or which household Electa, Lousia and Albert were in at that time 1830 Census but they were probably back in New York. Because they are not mentioned being in Michigan like Moses and William are.

Decade 1830 10 1840

Mose's Brother, Elias Hogle and his wife Roxylana "Roxie" Rider, were living with his father-in-law back in Eaton, Madison, New York on a property right next to a parcel, owned by the brother's father-in-law at this time. Yes Brother's Married Sister here back in 1830.

William B. is listed with his new Wife Laura Terrell in Ionia, Michigan. with their first born Gilbert Bruce Hogle. on the 1840 Census.

Moses is listed as being in Sebewa, Ionia, Michigan in Michigan Pioneer Journals, but he's not on the Census and not in the house of his son, so he must be back on his way to New York to get the Rest of his Family.

In 1840 in Murray, Orleans, New York there appears a Moses Hogle and the only one in the United States the would account for Him, Electa, Albert and Lousia, but there is an older daughter who I had no idea who it was until a family member in Lousia line pointed out that the witnesses at Lousia's marriage to Orrin Doud were Arvilla Mills and Thomas Mills from Marshall, Calhoun, Michigan in 1856. Aunt Arvilla Mills home in Marshall, Calhoun, Michigan is the place were Electa Hogle died. That comes directly from Jessie's Journal.

So that gives us the name of the final member of Moses's Family as seen in the 1840 Census. Arvilla Hogle

Decade 1840 10 1850

But no doubt on the next 1850 Census Moses and Electa have moved their entire Family to Michigan along with their wives and Children where they all appear. Just like my Great Great Grandmother recorded in her Journal.

It seems that Thomas MIlls and Arvilla did not come to Michigan until after 1845 as they had two son's born in New York, William in 1842 and Charles in 1845. Those dates and the Census would place their marriage c. 1841.
