About Eli Kirby

It has been suggested, in the French Canadian Ancestry FB group, that his name could be:

  • Eli could be Elie or even Helie
  • Kirby/Curby is likely Corbeil, Corbeille, or Corbière.

Although, according to the French-Canadian Surnames: Variants, Dit, Anglicizations, etc. Kirby stems from these two surnames.(Corbiere or Corbeille) https://homepages.rootsweb.com/~afgs/K1dit-etc.html

There is speculation by other Kirby descendants that Eli's father was John or Johnathon Kirby & Mom Mary ?. I have not found any evidence of that yet but am actively researching all avenues.

Eli Kirby's name has been written as Corby, Cerby, Curby, Kirby and Kerby. He married Mary Katherine Harder Jan 13,1844 in St. Clair County, Michigan. They lived in Sanilac County and are probably buried there. They had 11 children.

Place of birth: Some records say Quebec, Canada, some say "French" Canada, some say Montreal Canada.
