Elias DeMill who died at his home, in this city on Friday, July 21, 1905 after an illness of some five months, was a son of Freeborn and Anna Knight DeMille and was born in Caldwell County, Missouri on January 12, 1938.
His parents joined the Mormon church about one year after it was founded and were neighbors of the Prophet Joseph Smith who named and blessed him.
The family endured the persecutions of Mormonism thru the bitter period, having lived in Jackson County, Missouri, Kirtland and Nauvoo. His father helped to build the Kirtland and Nauvoo Temples.
In the spring of 1850, his parents, with their two sons and two daughters, started for Utah and reached Manti, Utah, late in the fall during the Indian troubles, in which he took an active part. On June 11, 1868 he was married to Melvina Winget and ten children were born to them. His wife and five children survive him. They are Eliza Taylor, Lizzie Cox, Monroe, Leroy and Edwin.

He married Melvina Winget June 12, 1863 in Manti, Utah. They had about five children: Eliza DeMill, Elizabeth (Lizzie) DeMill, Monroe DeMill, Leroy DeMill and Edwin DeMill.
