Naturalization record from The National Archives and Records Administration, Northeast Region Boston- To the honorable the Judges of the CIRCUIT COURT OF THE UNITED STATES begun and Holden at Boston, within and for the District of Massachusetts. Respectfully represents Elias Swig residing at 416 Washington Street, Taunton in said District, occupation Pedler, an alien and a free white person; that he was born in Pren in Poland in Russia, the 15th day of May in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and thirty-four and is now about fifty-six years of age; that he arrived at New York in the District of New York in the United States of America, on or about the 15th day of December in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and eighty three.... And the said petitioner further represents that he made a primary declaration of his intention to become a citizen of the said United States, before the honorable First District Court, Bristol, R.I. on the 23rd day of October A.D. 1888. I, Elias Swig do solemnly swear, that I do absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to every Foreign Prince, Potentate, State,or Soverignty whatsoever- particularly to Alexander III Emperor of Russia, whose subject I have heretofore been; and that I will support the Constitution of the United States of America, - so help me God. Dist. of Massachusetts, to wit: At a Circuit Court of the United States, begun and holden at said Boston, on the fifteenth day of October in the year of our Lord 1890, to wit, on the twenty sixth day of December A.D. 1890, the said Swig having produced the evidence required by law, took the aforesaid oath and was admitted to become a citizen of the United States of America; and the Court ordered that record thereof be made accordingly.

Boston Transcript, September 23, 1919 Father of Simon Swig Elias Swig was native of Russia and had lived in Taunton and East Boston for 35 years.
Elias Swig, a native of Russia and for 35 years a resident of Taunton and East Boston, died this morning at his home at 83 Porter street, East Boston. He was the father of Simon Swig, vice-president of the Tremont Trust Co.
In Russia, Mr. Swig was an instructor. He is survived by his widow who is 95 years old, five daughters and one son.
