About Eliza Tyler Stowe
Twins Hattie and Eliza were the oldest Stowe children. Lively Hattie was often her mother’s travel companion; the more reserved Eliza preferred to remain at home. Both daughters were well read and enjoyed political and intellectual discussion. Neither married; they lived with their parents, serving as correspondents and assistants for their mother, managing the family households and later taking care of their aging parents. After their parents died, the sisters moved to Simsbury, CT near their brother Charles.
Simsbury, Conn., March 16 -- Miss Eliza Stowe, daughter of the author of "Uncle Tom's Cabin," died at her home here today. She was 75 years old, and death was due to natural causes.
At the death of her distinguished mother, Miss Stowe and her sister, Harriet, came to Simsbury, to live with Rev. Charles Beecher Stowe, a brother. Mrs. Stowe, now the only surviving member of the family, recently moved to New York, but the sisters continued to reside in this city in quiet retirement. Miss Harriet Stowe died about five years ago. Daily Advocate, Saturday, March 16, 1912, Stamford, Connecticut, page 6.
Her funeral notice states her body was sent to Andover to be buried by her parents.
