Biography

Elizabeth Winter was born in 1643 in Scituate, Massachusetts. In 1665 Elizabeth married Henry Gardiner of Nantucket, later of Westchester.[1]

(Note: John Cromwell was her stepfather, her mother’s third husband. She was the daughter of John Winter and Elizabeth Wheaton.)

They had eight children:

There is a record of Henry and Elizabeth living on Nantucket. Henry is 26, so he was probably born in or before 1640, if they married by 1665. A similar record of residency on Nantucket exists for Elizabeth Cromwell, Age 25.

There is a record of Elizabeth, widow of John Cromwell in April 10, 1696, making a legal arrangement with her daughter and son in law to live with them. In exchange, she deeded to them all her movable assets. [5][6]

John Cromwell Sr. And his wife Elizabeth left “ their lands” to their son James, dated 1688.[7]

This is not Henry Gardiner of Rhode Island. Caroline Robinson does not include Elizabeth Cromwell as wife for Henry Gardiner.

Henry Gardiner of Rhode Island married the widow of John Remington. [8] *This Elizabeth did not marry John Ingram, that Elizabeth lived in Hadley, Massachusetts.

Elizabeth Wheaton (1613-1699) married firstly John Winter (d, 1651) on 29 Sep 1631 in Taunton St Mary Magdalene, Taunton, Somerset, England.[2][3]
