Elizabeth STEEL was born c1766

Elizabeth was deaf, the first non-Aboriginal deaf person in the colony.

Elizabeth was convicted of stealing a watch and was sentenced to 7 years transportation. She arrived in Sydney Cove on 3/6/1790 on "Lady Juliana"

Elizabeth was sent to Norfolk Island in August 1790

Elizabeth married James MACKEY in November 1791

Elizabeth returned to Sydney in 1794 on "Francis"

Elizabeth died June 1795 and was buried on 8/6/1795 in Sydney

In 1991 archaelogists found the upper portion of her gravestone "In Memory of Eliz Steel died 1795 Aged"
