Daughter of Joseph Hastings and Lydia Brown of Watertown and Waltham, MA. She was married on April 8, 1788 in Shrewsbury, Worcester, MA to Samuel Whitney. They were the parents of thirteen children. Samuel died in Shrewsbury.

Elizabeth is the mother-in-law of Tamar Houghton Whitney who is also buried in the Marlboro Cemetery, Windham Co., VT. Tamar was married to Deacon Jonas Whitney who removed to Strongsville, OH after her death and is buried in the Strongsville Cemetery, Cuyahoga County.
