World War I Veteran Photo at right was in the Carthage Press in 1921 announcing he had been elected Captain of the Carthage anti-aircraft battery.

THE Carthage anti-aircraft battery was mustered into the state service last night at the armory by Capt. Arch Frow of Nevada. Maj. Elmer Trowbridge was elected captain, John M. Curlee was chosen as first lieutenant and Clyde Narramore was named as second lieutenant. Captain Trowbridge has been associated with national guard work for eighteen years, first enlisting in Company A in 1902. He rose through the various grades and in 1912 when Capt. W. E. Hiatt was named as major succeeded him in command of the company. He was in command of Company A during its tour of duty on the Mexican border and became a major in the Second Missouri in the early part of 1917. He entered the service in this capacity at the beginning of the war and when the regiment was broken up commanded the 130th Machine Gun Battalion for a time.

ELMER TROWBRIDGE 75, PASSES AWAY TODAY IN ANDERSON

Elmer B. Trowbridge, 75, well known former Carthage resident died this morning at the Trowbridge home in Anderson He had been ill three months but had not been bedfast until Tuesday. Born December 13, 1883 in Springdale, Arkansas. Mr. Trowbridge came to Carthage when he was nine months old with his parents, the Rev and Mrs. J. W. Trowbridge. He grew up here and received his education in Carthage schools. for a number of years Mr. Trowbridge was with the Carthage Furniture and the Turner Furniture companies. Prior to his retirement in 1953 he was employed at the Atlas Powder Plant, southwest of Carthage.

Upon retirement Mr. and Mrs. Trowbridge moved to Anderson where their son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. S.S. Bush make their home.

Mr. Trowbridge was a captain of Company A, of the Second Missouri Infantry, Missouri National Guard for many years and was a major of the 135th machine gun Battalion, Missouri national Guard in World War I.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Anderson, was a life member and past master of Carthage Lodge No. 197 A. F. and A. M.; a past patron of Eminence chapter No. 93, Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Edwin W. Wiggins post No. 9, American Legion all of Carthage.

Mr. Trowbridge was married to July 4, 1908 in Carthage to Miss Anna Abrams. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last year.

Surviving Mr. Trowbridge are his wife; the daughter, Mrs. Bush a sister Mrs. Nora Reno who makes her home witht he Trowbridges, and two grandsons, James R. Bush assistant superintendent of the Lake of the Ozarks state park and Toni Bush, Anderson. Mrs. Reno now is in Pasadena, California visiting her son Loren Reno.

NOTE: Around the 1930s the Capt and wife operated a grocery store at 1248 south Garrison avenue, (Jefferson Highway), while daughter was still home.
