OTTO TROWBRIDGE KILLED FALLS FROM 30 FOOT WINDMILL TOWER ON ROY TURK FARM
Dies in Ambulance on His Way to Carthage Hospital Ruptured His Liver
Otto Trowbridge, an employee of the Shuler Pump Company and a well known Carthage man, was fatally injured at 10:30 o'clock this morning in a fall from a 30-foot windmill tower on the Roy Turk farm, 10 miles southeast of Carthage. He died just before noon, as he was being brought to Carthage in an ambulance.
Trowbridge, with Thomas Barker had gone to the Turk farm this morning to install a new windmill head or motor. He was at the very top of the tower, holding the motor as it was being hoisteded into place by use of a "gin" pole and block and tackle. It is said that the "gin" pole gave way, causing Trowbridge to be jerked from his hold on the tower. The motor also fell to the ground, but according to Barker, did not strike Trowbridge. The injured man became unconscious shortly after the fall. The Knell Undertaking Company's ambulance was called to bring him to the hospital, but he died shortly after being placed in the motor vehicle. Dr. Simmons, of Sarcoxie, who had been called, and who accompanied the body to Carthage, said that no broken bones were found. He believes death was caused by a ruptured liver. The body was taken to the Knell Undertaking company's parlors here.
Mr. Trowbridge was 37 years old. He had been employed by the Shuler Pump Company for several years. His home is at 1175 Lyon Street, where he lived with his wife and one daughter, Dorothy, 12 years old.
His parents, the Rev. J. W. Trowbridge, of South McGregor Street, one sister, Mrs. J. E. 'Norah' Reno of Morgan Heights, and two brothers; Elmer Trowbridge of Carthage and Thomas Trowbridge of Picher, Oklahoma also survive.
