About Elsje Myburgh

http://www.stamouers.com/stamouers/surnames-v-z/523-van-der-merwe-w... says that Elsie was baptised on 15 Jul 1697 (possibly based on one of these references - Jan van der Merwe, "Willem Schalkszoon van der Merwe - "n Biografiese Ekskursie" Familia XVI 1979 no 1; Heese en Lombard; or Hoge, Personalia of Germans at the Cape). There is no record of this baptism having occurred at Cape Town, and unfortunately the Drakenstein records 1691-1717 have been lost. As her father had moved to the Drakenstein area in 1688, after living in the Cape since his arrival in 1661, it is reasonable to assume that she was born there.
First Fifty Years estimates her birthdate as 1693, as per sources cited. http://www.e-family.co.za/ffy/g6/p6549.htm#c6549.
There’s a paucity of reliable sources as to Elsje’s early life, but it seems that she fell pregnant aged about 14, giving birth to a son, Lambert, who was baptised on 15 Jan 1708. The father is recorded as Albert Meijburg, and it is assumed that they were married at this time.
