Emanuel D. (Mannen) Clements

Emanuel was born in Kentucky, married in Wayne Co. TN, was in Mississippi in July, 1837 where his first child was born, and arrived in the Republic of Texas in November, 1837.

He has land grants in Liberty Co. TX in 1840 and 1845. The part of Liberty Co. TX where Emanuel and his family lived became part of Polk Co. TX in 1846 after Texas gained U.S. statehood.

Emanuel and his family are listed on the 1850 Limestone Co. TX Census. His occupation is listed as blacksmith.

From the book, The Tie That Binds, we learn that Emanuel was the first sheriff of Limestone Co. TX, elected August 18, 1846, and serving until August 6, 1848.

In 1858, Emanuel moved his family to Gonzales Co. TX. He is listed on the 1860 Gonzales Co. TX Census. He is also listed on the 1862 Gonzales Co. TX Tax Roll with150 acres of land and 125 head of cattle.
