About William Barnett Clements (CSA)
There are few records of the life of William. He is listed onthe 1862 Gonzales Co. TX Tax Roll as having eight acres of land and twenty-five cattle. Soon after his marriage he joined the Confederate Army at Belmont on March 22, 1862 and served in Company D of the 36th Texas Cavalry. He was mustered in at San Antonio and sent to Camp Salado about five miles away. A few months later he contracted measles and died on June 22, 1862. His son, William Barnett Jr. was born after his death.
