About Emmaline Lallathin

Emmaline Lallathin Dies Sunday at Soda Springs, Idaho Emmaline Cranney Lallathin, 78, passed away March 1, 1953 at Soda Springs, Idaho. The body was brought to Afton for funeral services which were held March 4 in the Afton South Ward LDS Chapel. Mrs Lallathin was born in Logan, Utah, June 1, 1874 the daughter of Hyrum King and Elizabeth Crook Cranney. Her mother died when she was sixteen years of age, and Emma assumed the housekeeping duties of her father and seven older brothers, no small task for one so young. In 1897 she married to Fredrick C. Lallathin in the Logan Temple. They continued to live in Logan for some time and it was there that Harriet and Lizzie were born. They came to Star Valley soon after and made their home at Bedford. Here the other children were born, with the exception of the baby LaRue. They were living in Auburn at the time of the flu epidemic of 1918. It was this disease which took the life of LaRue at the age of one year. At the same time Mrs Lallathin was so ill as to be totally unaware of the death and bruial of her baby. A few years after that they came to Afton so as to be near the high school, and then Ted a junior in school was taken from them. Soon after this they moved to Salt Lake City and made their home there for over twenty years. Theirs was also a home for any Star Valley acquaintance who found it necessary to remain there for any reason. Mr and Mrs Lallathin were almost constantly entertaining some such person in their home. On June 30, 1937, their daughter, Lizzie the wife of Carl Haderlie was suddenly taken, leaving a loving and devoted husband and four small children. This added greatly to the burdens that she already bore in her heart. On September 1, 1944 her husband was as suddenly taken from her, and again at this time she was so near death's door that she was unaware of his passing. It is believed that it was the shock of hearing of his death that revived her. Again two years ago, Loratta another daughter, passed away. This she took in the same heroic manner and few realized the weight of sorrow she carried in her heart. For the past twenty years she has been sorely afflicted with a severe pain in her face and jaw at very frequent intervals and she was compelled to suffer this torture. Emma Cranney Lallathin is the last of eight full brothers and sisters. Seven times she has been to bid them a final farewell. Of the other members of her father's family, only two survive, Mrs Loretta Kingston, of Malad, Idaho and mother of Hermoine Schwab; and Mrs Kate Huesser, of Yucaipia, California. Mrs Lallathin was the mother of eleven children, seven of whom survive. They are: Mrs Lester Coy (Harriett) of Thayne; Antone, frank and Duane of Soda Springs, Idaho; Mrs B.F.Nayer (Florence) of Burbank, California; Mrs Ben C. Falk (Alice) of Ogden; and Mrs Duane Casto (Rozina) of Bedford. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She has been a devoted wife and mother and her family's happiness and welfare were always her first concern. A staunch member of the LDS church, she served as president of the MIA, a worker in the primary and relief society, but her greatest service was to the many whom she befriended in her home. The following services were conducted March 4 in the Afton South Ward LDS Chapel: Invocation: Russel Wilkes Life Sketch: Bertha Conley. Talk: Bishop Norville Fluckiger. Violin Selection: "O My Father: Erwin and Oral Merritt. Talk: Bishop Charles Moser. Vocal Solo: "That Wonderful Mother of Mine" Ernest Turner Remarks E. LaVere Johns. Vocal Duet "Beyond the Sunset" Pres E. Francis Winters & Co. Benediction: Ernest Wolfley. Dedication of Grave: Carl Haderlie.
