Funeral services for Wilford W. Cranney, 79, who passed away Thursday evening, after a long illness will be held in the Afton South Ward chapel Saturday, October 20th at 1:30 p.m. The service will be under the direction of the South Ward Bishopric. Mr Cranney would have been 80 years of age next May. The body will lie in state at the W.W. Cranney home at 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services were held for Wilford Woodruff Cranney, life-long resident of star Valley excepting a few years spent in Salt Lake City, last Saturday, October 20 in the Afton South Ward LDS chapel. Bishop Harold R. Papworth presided. Mr Cranney, son of Elizabeth Crook Cranney and Hyrum K. Cranney, was born May 24, 1872 at Logan Utah. He was educated in the public schools of Logan and in the Brigham Young College. He was married to Laura Jeanette Mickelson in the Logan Temple November 2,1893. Mr and Mrs Cranney were the parents of 11 children; Ina C. Ackerman, Wilford L. Cranney, Mae C. Victor, Lucille C., Keene, Owen w. Cranney, Willard K. Cranney, Hyrum K. Cranney, Kenneth L. Cranney Emma C Henderson, Frank R. Cranney and Norma C. Webb. Two children have proceeded him in death. He moved to Star Valley in the early years of his marriage and spent most of his life here. Several years ago he was advised to change climates for his health and spent eight winters in Mesa Arizona, doing temple work. He filled a mission to the Northeastern states in 1899 to 1901, leaving his wife and three small children at home. In 1937 he filled a short term mission to the same field of labor. He was an ardent student of the Gospel and has spent a great part of his life teaching it in the various classes in the church. He held the office of high priest. On October 18 he departed on his third mission, his final call to Paradise. In his departure he leaves a loving and devoted wife, who lives by the conviction that God hath joined them together and no man can put them asunder and that he has gone to prepare a place that she may abide eternally with him. In his last hours of suffering one of his loved ones expressed the desire that his life could be didicated to the Lord, and it was stated "He dedicated his life to the Lord nearly 80 years ago. Funeral services were as follows: Prayer in the home by Dewey Henderson; Processional music Margaret Winters; Invocation, Willard Nield; Song, Canto Chorus; Life Sketch, E. Lavere Johns; speaker, Ray S. Thurman; vocal Solo, James Gomm; Speaker Osborne Low, Closing remarks Bp, Harold R. Papworth; Closing song Ernest Turner; Benediction Erastus N. Jensen; Reccessional music, Margaret Winters; Dedication of the grave, Lynn Webb. Pallbearers were grandsons. The Relief Society was in charge of floral arrangements and lunch following the services.
