About William Richard Wilkes

Will Wilkes one of the old residents of Star Valley passed away at the home of F.P. Cranney in Auburn late last Thursday evening November 27. Mr Wilkes had not been in very good health for some time, and about three weeks ago he commenced to fail rapidly, until death Thursday night. Mr Wilkes was 75 years of age and has been partly crippled since he was 4 years old. He has lived in the valley for nearly fifty years, and came here from Logan with his brother Charles when they were both young men. He was born in Logan, Utah, July 23, 1861. Mr Wilkes was never married, but lived most of the time with his brother Chas. Wilkes of Bedford or with his half-brothers, the Cranney boys. He took up a homestead in Etna where the Mutual Creamery now stand. During his life in the valley he has lived at Smoot, Auburn, Bedford and Etna. Funeral services were held in Auburn last Sunday. The choir sang the opening song. Opening prayer by Bishop D.T. Wood. A song was rendered by M.K. Hurd and wife and daughter Ada. The speakers were P.P. Baldwin, Bishop O. Low, Dell Cranney of Logan and Bishop George of Auburn. The closing prayer was given by H.C. Walton. The Grave was dedicated by Chas. Moser.' He was buried in the Auburn cemetery. Outside visitors who came into attend the funeral were: Mrs Fred Lallathin of Salt Lake City, a sister, Mrs Jane Bell of Lava Hot Springs, sister Dell Cranney and son Russell of Logan, three half-brothers and two half-sisters. of St. Charles. Bishop Allred of St. Charles and Dr and Mrs Lorin Cranney of Kemmerer.
