Seth was a farmer by trade. He married Hannah Oakes on November 18, 1783, in Winchester, N.H.
This Alexander family, along with his wife's 2nd husband's family, the Follett's, constitute one of the main branches of the "Oakes tribe", or more than half of the descendants of Hannah's father, John Oakes.
Seth served as a sergeant during the Revolutionary War from 1775-1776 in Captain William Humphrey's Company. He was an ensign in June, 1777, in Captain Oliver Capron's Co. Seth marched to the relief of Ticonderoga.
