About Ernest J Doyebi, Sr

Funeral for Ernest Doyebi Sr., 84, Anadarko, will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Milton Otis officiating. Burial will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. Prayer service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Doyebi died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Anadarko.

He was born Aug. 3, 1920, to Nathan and Ruby Sahquodlequoie Doyebi. He married Faye Kadayso Doyebi. He served 12 years in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. He fought battles and campaigns in Rhineland, Normandy, Central Europe and France. His decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, the Purple Heart, Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Service Ribbon, one Silver Service Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was a member of the Kiowa Tribe Black-Leggins Society, Oh-Mah-Lodge, Kiowa Gourd Club and American Legion Post 212. He was also a member of the Kiowa Tiah-Piah Society, Saint Patrick's Catholic Church, the Intertribal Singers and the Southern Plains Indian Museum. He won many Arbor contests during the American Indian Expo from 1981 to 1989.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters: Sharon Ahtone, Ernestine Doyebi, Sheila Dare, Theresa Robledo and Patricia Wells; a son, Jimmy Doyebi; five stepchildren: Leatrice Comanche, Ruby Comanche, Gerald Comanche, Archie Comanche and Tommy Comanche; 31 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Hugh Doyebi.
