About Eva Marianna Besnyö
Eva Besnyo was a well known photographer. She crew up with her two sisters in a liberal Jewish family in Budapest. To study more photography she went to Berlin in 1930, were she met the Dutch photographer John Fernhout. Because of the rise of the Nazis in Germany, Eva decided to follow Fernhout to The Netherlands in 1932. They married in 1933. During the war years in Amsterdam, Eva was in hiding and worked for the Dutch underground resistance. It was here she met Wim Brusse, a dutch sculptor and photographer. In 1945 Eva divorced Fernhout and in 1947 she married Wim Brusse, with whom she had 2 children. After her children were teenagers, Eva started to photograph again and became well known for her work in The Netherlands. She lived her last years of her life in the Rosa Spier Huis in Laren, were she died in 2003 at the age of 93.
