Evelyn May Hershberger

WALNUT CREEK — Evelyn M. Schlabach, 91, of Walnut Creek, died Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

She was born July 24, 1926, in Holmes County to the late Sylvanus and Ella (Miller) Hershberger, and married Roy Schlabach on July 24, 1948. He died May 20, 2005.

She was retired from the former Owens-Illinois in Berlin, drove for the Amish community for many years and was a member of Walnut Creek Mennonite Church.

Surviving are her children, Bruce (Janet) Schlabach of West Liberty and Sharon Yackey of Sugarcreek; a son-in-law, Paul Stutzman of Berlin; grandchildren, Joshua (Christina) Yackey, Sara (Chad) Hochstetler, Melissa (Tom) Saunders, Rodrick (Jill) Stutzman, Kristin (Trevor) Thomas, Bradley Schlabach (fiancee Kati), Brian (Anna) Yoder Schlabach, and Jillian Schlabach; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by daughters, Vicki and Mary; sons-in-law, Gary Yackey and Richard Troyer; and eight siblings.

Services will be Friday, April 20 at noon at Walnut Creek Mennonite Church, where friends may call from 10 a.m.-noon prior to the services. Pastor Don Hamsher will officiate, with burial in the church cemetery.
