Bible Description: Fielding VEAZEY (1815-1884) and wife, Nancy D. Howard (1824-1896)

Book Title: Arkansas DAR GRC report ; s1 v047 : bible records of Ashley County, Arkansas / Colonel Francis Vivian Brooking Chapter

===================================================

Fielding and Nancy and many of members of their immediate family are buried at Ebenezer Baptist Church in NC. Wayne and Ann Veazey Davis visited this cemetery with Billy Veazey in 1993 and photographed the markers. This family migrated to Bradley County, AR about 1860. The frontier just across the Mississippi was opening up with new lands and one Veazey took advantage of his opportunities. One account stated two families from Wake County, NC migrating to AK in covered wagons took three months to make the trip. We would certainly expect that it took Fielding and his family at least that long a time. Billy and Ann speculated on how they managed to get across the Mississippi River. We guess it must have been by ferry boats since no big bridges had been built across that water highway in 1860. Information on this line was provided by Lewis and Billy Veazey from AR.

The homeplace that Fielding built in 1860 is no longer standing; however, there is a huge magnolia tree that his daughter Frances planted about 1877 that is still standing.In 1984, Lewis wrote that it measures 9'2" around and at least 35" in diameter. Lewis sent Ann pictures of the tree and they saw it in February of 1993 when they visited Billy in AR. Mr Harold Spraggins owned a home on this site and the property about 1984.
