Frank T. Cleland was born July 9, 1850 in Ontario, Canada, the son of William and Catherine Orr Cleland. He came to Dundas in November, 1866 with the family, and his father was employed as a millwright here. In 1901 he moved to the Wilson farm on the Stanton road, and lived there for the next 18 years. In 1919 he moved to Danbury, Wiconsin, where he since resided, and his wife passed away there in December of 1942 shortly after they had celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Mr. Cleland was very hale and hearty for his great age. At 88 years he still enjoyed working in the woods, and cut ten loads of wood that year. He still was in excellent health until about the middle of December when he lost some of his vigor, and seemed to tire easily. However he had come to Minneapolis and was spending the holidays with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. John Burlingame, and his death occurred there early Monday morning, January 6. Mr. Cleland is survived by three sons: Wilfred of Dotan, Alabama, and Edward of Los Angeles; and Glen of Sonora, California; and four daughters; Mrs. L. R. Bowe (Agnes) of Welch, Mrs. Fred Neil (Ruth) of Castle Rock, Mrs.. Ralph Rogers ((Hazel) of Delano, Cal., and Mrs. Burlingame (Esther) of Minneapolis. Also two brothers; H. N. Cleland of Dundas, and John of Aberdeen, S. D.; and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Dixon of Brainerd; Mrs.. Wallace E. Simning (Rowena) of Crystal City, Manitoba, Canada, and Mrs. David Clark (Jessie) of California. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon in the Holy Cross Episcopal church with Harold Roach officiating. Mrs. Chester Schrader and Mrs. Oscar Boyum and Norman Boyum sang "Abide With Me," "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Faith of Our Fathers." Interment was made in the Groveland cemetery, the pallbearers being six of his grandsons: James Burlingame, Dan, Donald and Frank Bowe, and Ralph and Paul Neil. Edward Cleland from Los Angeles was the only one of Mr. Cleland's children from a distance who was present for the service.
