About Francis Floyd
Francis Floyd I is one of several brothers (and possible sisters) who moved from North Carolina before the American Revolution to the Horry County, South Carolina area (then part of Georgetown District). After substantive research in census data, court and legislative archives, it appears clear that the parents of the brothers are Samuel Floyd and Ann Rowland Floyd. Rowland/Roland are family names in various lines and each line has a Samuel, often more than once in a generation, which can lead to confusion. Ann or Anna are common names in the Floyd family for women. In addition, DNA matches are confirming relationships among members. Please contribute DNA to Family Tree DNA studies if possible or other testing services where tree matches can be confirmed.

Francis was given land grants for his service in the American Revolutionary War. Grant No. 2010 from the state of North Carolina for 84 months of service in the Revolution was for 640 acres, signed August 16, 1785 by J.A. Glasgow. One grant of 500 acres was in Georgetown district of N.E. side of Drowning Creek (Lumber River). A grant was signed August 4, 1795 by Charles Pinckney, Governor of South Carolina. Above is found on page 39, of KITH 'N KIN by Flora Griffin Huff.
Evidence that Francis supplied the troops in Georgetown gave aid and material goods noted in SAR application.
