About George Bain Johnston [Marine "Lady Penrhyn" 1788]
George JOHNSTON was born 19/3/1764 in Annandale, Scotland - the son of Captain George JOHNSTON.
He was a soldier on the "Lady Penrhyn" which arrived in Sydney Cove on the 26/1/1788. On the voyage he met Esther ABRAHAMS and they lived together after the ship docked.
George and Esther had 7 children and then were married 12/11/1814 at Parramatta
George died 5/1/1923
George was reputedly the first man ashore at Port Jackson in January 1788. On 26/1/1808 he arrested Bligh and assumed the Lieutenant-Governorship. He was court-martialled in June 1811 where he was cashiered. He travelled back to NSW and arrived on the 30/5/1813.
