About George Hemsley Dadswell
Place of birth 'Oat Rise, Walthamstow' from a letter on 22 Feb 1989 from his daughter Jill Kennedy to my Granny Thelma. Apparently their street was later demolished in an air raid so Jill couldn't photograph it. They moved to Hawkhurst, Kent where John ran what Jill calls a 'high class grocer" - she refers to the birth certificate giving John's status as a Dry Salter - which, she says, was "today's equivalent of a delicatessen combined with Thrupps, on a small scale." George apparently referred to his Greenside house in South Africa as "Hawkhurst." [Sharon 2013]
The My Heritage link by John Ewan Henderson - describes his place of birth as Oatlands Rise, Walthamstow, Essex - so I have ammended it to that. [Sharon 2013]
