An interesting story about daughter, Sarah Ann. In a Hawkhurst history. She was known as Annie and became a recluse. She would collect her provisions late at night from the shopkeepers who would leave them on their back doorsteps. [Information from Dadswell Researcher Barbara Nethercott, by email Nov 2013]
Sarah & Michael's Marriage date from original marriage certificate in my possession [Sharon 2013]
From a letter on 22 Feb 1989 between his two granddaughters - Jill Kennedy to my Granny Thelma, he was living in 'Oat Rise, Walthamstow' when his son, George (Jill's father) was born. Apparently their street was later demolished in an air raid so Jill couldn't photograph it. They moved to Hawkhurst, Kent where John ran what Jill calls a 'high class grocer" - she refers to the birth certificate [of George, I think] giving John's status as a Dry Salter - which, she says, was "today's equivalent of a delicatessen combined with Thrupps, on a small scale." George apparently referred to his Greenside house in South Africa as "Hawkhurst." [Sharon 2013]
The My Heritage link by John Ewan Henderson - describes George's place of birth as Oatlands Rise, Walthamstow, Essex - so I have ammended it to that. [Sharon 2013]
