George Goldsby aka William Scott

George Goldsby a mulatto and a Buffalo soldier with the rank of First Sgt. in the US Army D Troop, Tenth U. S. Cavalry, who had fought for both the North & the South during the Civil War. George was stationed at Fort Concho, Texas

George  want anyone to know his ethnic background, so he said he was of Mexican, Souix Indian and white ancestry.g  In 1880 Arkansas, Effie, being white, marrying George, a mulatto, would have been an illegal/invalid marriage, so she retained her Henshaw maiden name until they were re-married in Kansas in 1886.d

George Goldsby served during the Civil War, first with the Confederate Army, then with the Union Army. He was present at the Battle of Gettysburg. After the Civil War, George served as a Buffalo Soldier, First Sargeant, Company D, 10th Calvalry.g,h He deserted May 23 1879, never returning and never apprehended, and then assuming the name William Scott.d
